Oriental Fox Trot

Years ago, when the band Ululating Mummies were playing an event for the VCU Art Department, a professor came to me and asked if we were playing Oriental Foxtrot. I had no idea what it was and he explained that it was a dance craze from the nineteen teens and twenties.

Further information on Oriental Foxtrot was hard to come by. And only recently is it making it's presence on the internet.

The song I'm playing here, Salome, by Robert Stoltz, had very few versions on Youtube a few months ago and now has about a dozen. Many of them from people's 78's collections.

Robert Stoltz had a long and fruitful career as a composer, which included writing for cabaret in Berlin.
